Global Village

Global VillageWe at KSKQ are excited about the latest addition to our schedule--Global Village. The show comes to us from KMUW 89.1 FM, Wichita. It airs on over 130 stations world-wide. From classic recordings to the latest new releases, from right around the corner to halfway around the world, host Chris Heim presents a wide range of music from all over the globe, along with jazz, rock, folk and other genres, artists and songs with world music influences.

Each month, the show also focuses on a particular artist, style or theme - going deeper into the music and offering rare and seldom heard selections along with classic recordings. And at the beginning of every month, hear the best world music new releases with the Global Village New Month/New Music show. Each night is a different musical journey, with music that is unusual and intriguing, yet still very close to home.

Chicago native Chris Heim began a lifelong love affair with radio after wandering into her campus station at the University of Chicago and being offered a music show after an unexpected opening developed. She got her first job in radio at one of the area’s last “free form” stations, later worked at Chicago’s only progressive rock station and eventually joined the NPR affiliate there, hosting jazz and world music shows (the latter being one of the longest running in public radio), serving as music director and executive producer and anchor for national broadcasts of the city’s jazz, blues and Latin music festivals. Chris is also a freelance writer and a contributor to a number of national jazz, blues and world music publications.
